How to use a Grok Bot
Install the Grok Bot app, create a named Bot with one job, and hand it a first task. Steps come from official xAI docs.
Updated
You want a Grok Bot that can work in your real tools, not only answer chat. Official xAI docs call that product Grok Bot. The app and downloads live at x.ai/bot.
Grokdex is a ranked board of public https://x.ai/bot/… share links. This page teaches the official Grok Bot product. Listing on Grokdex is a later step.
What you need
You need an eligible plan and the Grok Bot app. Get started currently lists SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Pro+, Cursor Ultra, and Cursor Teams Standard or Premium. The Grok Bot FAQ repeats that list. Plans and billing on Cursor help is the matrix named by official Grok Bot docs. It names some plans those pages omit. Check those pages for the current list. Do not treat this Grokdex page as billing.
Grok Bot requires cloud data storage. Accounts on Legacy Privacy Mode cannot start until they move to a supported Cursor data setting. That limit is in Get started and the FAQ.
Install the app
- 01
Open x.ai/bot and download Grok Bot for your computer. Get started covers macOS (Apple silicon or Intel), Windows (x64 or Arm64), and Linux (
.deb,.rpm, or AppImage under More downloads). - 02
Open Grok Bot. Choose Get started. Finish sign-in in the browser window. Grok Bot uses your Cursor account.
- 03
On first use, Grok Bot introduces Bots, the shared computer, and routines, then asks which tools you use. Those answers shape teammate suggestions. They do not connect or modify those tools by themselves.
The FAQ lists companion apps on iPhone (iOS 18 or later) and Android 9 or later. iPad is not supported at initial launch. The same Bots and conversations sync across signed-in devices. Grok Bot for Mobile links the App Store and Google Play. Editing a routine's schedule or instruction still needs the desktop app.
Create a Bot
Create and manage Bots gives this sequence.
- 01
Choose New in the sidebar, or press
Cmd/Ctrl+N. - 02
In New chat, select Create new agent.
- 03
Grok Bot creates and opens a Bot named New Agent.
- 04
Open Bot actions, then Edit Profile, and set the name, title, description, and avatar.
- 05
Start a conversation with a concrete task.
On first run you can also pick a suggested teammate, or choose Create your own and give a short name, one primary job, and a description of how it should work. That path is in Get started.
Give each Bot one job. Official examples include Talent Scout, Expense Manager, and Bug Reproduction. A job such as General Helper gives the Bot less guidance. Put rules that should stay true in the description. Put the task of the day in the message.
Hand it a first task
Get started says a strong request includes five parts.
- 01
Outcome. What should be finished?
- 02
Sources. Which apps, websites, files, or conversations matter?
- 03
Constraints. What must the Bot avoid or ask before doing?
- 04
Deliverable. What should it return?
- 05
Review point. When should it stop for you?
For a first result that needs no connector, Get started suggests attaching a document and asking for a cited summary that does not change the source file.
Work runs on a persistent cloud computer. Closing the app, laptop, or phone does not stop a background turn or a routine. That is in the overview and the FAQ.
Watch the computer and take over
Open Agent Computer from the conversation to watch the shared desktop. When the Bot hits a password, passkey, two-factor code, CAPTCHA, or payment check, take control, complete only that step, and tell the Bot to continue. Use the computer and apps says not to paste passwords or one-time codes into chat.
Prefer a connector when one exists. Open Settings, then Plugins, add the connector, then type @ in chat to attach it. Type / to reference a saved skill. Connectors are account-wide on the shared computer.
Talk to it like a teammate
Message and collaborate says to keep requests natural, and to make the outcome and decision boundary explicit. Lead with the result. Link the source of truth. State what the Bot may change and what needs approval. Ask for links, screenshots, or a short action log.
Send a new message if priorities change. A direct Stop now ends the current turn. It does not undo work the Bot already finished.
How do I add someone else's Bot?
Official Share a Bot says to copy the public share link, open the preview on x.ai, then choose Add to Grok Bot. You need the Grok Bot app to finish adding. You get a copy of the shared configuration. You do not get the author's computer, logins, or conversation history.
On Grokdex, identity and description always copy. Skills and routines copy only when the public share lists them. See How to add a template to your Grok account.
